2007 Paul Jaboulet Aine "Parallele 45"

2007 Paul Jaboulet Aine Parallele 45, Grenache/Syrah, Cotes du Rhone
Color: Very dark purple almost black color. No sediment.
Nose: Smells immediately of beef blood, intestinal with strong herbal notes of thyme. Dark brambly fruit finish. Alcohol present at the end at room temperature. With a few minutes in glass the wine becomes stronger with herbaciousness. Very terroir driven. Classic.
Taste: Blackberry jam attack with black pepper and tannic. Herbs transition to palate. Jammy up front flavor, mild mid palate, and then finishes bitter with herbs and tannins.
Acidity: >Medium
Density: Medium
Finish: Medium 20-25 seconds.
Alcohol: 13.5%
Notes: Mouth feel is difficult and wine is akward all together from start to finish. No polish but rustic and classic. Too much herbal bitterness on the finish for me to give a great score, but jammy fruit up front is typical of 2007 Cotes du Rhone. Very interesting nose and loved it. Very classic, good wine for the money, great value!
Rating: 86+ $9.50
