2009 Vignerons de Caractere "Petit Caprice" from Rhone Valley

2009 Vignerons de Caractere "Petit Caprice" Vin de Pays, Grenache/Syrah, Rhone Valley
Color: Beautiful dark rose color with pinkish hue.
Nose: Smoky upfront, briar fruit, blackberries, and herbal notes. Alcoholic heat on back end is very noticeable.
Taste: Light sour cherry, cranberries, red licorice. Fresh flavors upfront with a tinge of thyme. Awkward finish/ending. Hot alcohol.
Acidity: >Medium acidity.
Density: Light-Medium
Finish: Short 15-20 seconds
Alcohol: 13.5%
Notes: Good upfront vibrant fruit, but wasn't explosive. Not well extracted. Very good table wine. Short on the finish, but with decent acidity. A good foodies wine. Yearns for food. Not great
drinking by itself. Good representation of style from the Rhone Valley.
Rating: 85-86 (NR) $10.99
